The Pit-Many of our students want to play near the north end zone during home football games. I encourage you as parents unless you are going to supervise your children, it is best for them to sit with you during the game.

Coffee with Mrs. Foley-September 18 @ 8:15 in Atrium 2
I am meeting with any parent of 2nd-5th grade students who is interested in the foundations and frameworks strategies and how they can help their child improve their comprehension. There will be time for questions as well.

Confirmation-Recently I was reading through one of my professional magazines trying to catch up on the latest research in education and I ran across an interesting article about increasing students’ vocabulary. Robert Marzano, who is internationally known for his practical translations of current research into effective classroom strategies, listed the following six-step process for teaching vocabulary:

  1. Provide a description of the new term.
  2. Ask the students to restate the description.
  3. Ask the students to construct a picture.
  4. Engage students in activities that help reinforce the term.
  5. Ask students to discuss the term with others.
  6. Involve students in games

If you have had opportunity to see our vocab cards which were introduced last year through F&F, you will know why I was so excited. Our vocabulary strategy mirrors these six steps. As I visit the classrooms, I rejoice in God’s confirmation that Foundations and Frameworks’ strategies will improve our students’ comprehension and critical thinking.
