Books to Read

All of my life, summer has been a time for reading.  As a child, I visited the library so often the librarian knew my name.  As an adult, I love visiting book stores.  I want my elementary students to know you never quit reading and learning.  There is great joy in opening a book to listen to another person’s ideas, thoughts, and opinions.  I thought this year I would post on this blog some of my favorite books.  Thus far this summer, I’ve read several books, but one book has really encouraged me as a parent.

Boundaries: When to say yes, How to say no by Dr. John Townsend reminds us as parents why boundaries are so important to the growth and development of our children.  One chapter is devoted to the idea of connecting with other parents, so you can draw strength as you walk through the tough teenage years.  Don’t skip the first section, so you look only at your child’s problem.  Start with the beginning and look at yourself as a parent first.  (Psalm 139:23)
