 ImageBeginning Band

Beginning Band is open to any 6th , 7th , or 8th grade student interested in learning to play an instrument. Band is a comprehensive course of study in instrumental music based on the performance of the individual as well as the group. During the first semester students will learn how to read music, rhythms, how to assemble their instruments and begin acquiring the necessary skills for playing. The second semester involves individual effort for solo and ensemble contest. The combined beginning bands will play a spring concert $75 fee required

Band 7 & 8

Band is a comprehensive course of study in instrumental music based on the performance of the individual as well as the group. The band is composed of students who have completed at least a year of instrumental instruction. First semester work involves individual effort for All-Region band try-outs, chair placement, and group effort for the Christmas program. The remainder of the year is spent preparing for chair placement, solo and ensemble con­tests, and a spring concert. $75 fee required

Band 9 - 12

High school band is for students in grades 9 – 12 who play woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments.  Marching band begins in mid -August and continues through football season.  The band will have one extra rehearsal outside of school time each week during the football season. The band performs at football games, pep rallies, and parades. Further, the marching band participates in both regional and invitational marching contests. Students audition for chair placement for concert band at the end of football season. The second quarter work involves individual effort for all-region band tryouts, and preparation for a Christmas Concert. The remainder of the year is spent preparing music for home basketball games, solo and ensemble contests, ASBOA Regional Contests, various concert contests, and a spring concert. $75 fee required

 Choir -  6 (one-semester course paired with Art)

Choir - 7 and 8 (full-year course)

In this course, students learn the fundamentals of singing, including instruction on breathing techniques, part-singing, and the proper use of the voice. The choir has the opportunity to learn and present various seasonal pro­grams such as Fall Festival, Christmas, and spring concerts.

Chorus 9 - 12

Various seasonal programs are learned and presented: Fall Festival, Christmas, and Spring Concerts. Occasionally, assembly programs are presented to the student body as well as to students in various elementary schools. Chorus participates in Regional Festivals annually. The class will consist of praise music under the direction of the choral director. Students will be required to perform in chapels and outside school activities. It is the goal of this class for students to witness for the Lord Jesus Christ using praise music as a vehicle.

Drama

Drama will be approached from an active point of view. Students will complete both verbal and physical warm up exercises, perform pantomimes, improvisations, mimes, short scenes, both dramatic and comedic. The students will present several stories told orally and from many different genres. A theater make -up unit and a limited technical unit will aid the student in preparing a major presentation. This class will be assigned to help with the all-school play.  Students are required to audition for the school play.

Art 6

Introductory instruction and projects will be given in the areas of design, sculpture, and drawing, and three-dimensional works.

 Art 7-8

Instruction and projects will be given to promote knowledge in the areas of art appreciation, color theory, design, and drawing.

 Art I – 9th - 12th grade

Instruction and project opportunities will be provided in the following areas: elements and principles of design, drawing, and painting. There will be opportunities to qualify for participation in various are shows. Goals include familiarization with different media techniques and application of concepts.

 Yearbook

Students will have the task of creating a school history of the current year. Not only will they discuss the ways of producing and selling the yearbook, but they will also be given practical experience in putting the yearbook together.

Journalism  

The objective of this course is to provide students with the fundamental roots of journalism. Exposure to a variety of journalistic terms, references, and knowledge will be emphasized. Writing, reading, and reviewing of news media will be strongly considered. This class would provide knowledge and application of journalistic style. Newspaper, radio, and television will be the three main sources of interest covered within the timeframe of the course. Some assignments will require the student to work independently outside the classroom. We produce The Shiloh Testament and The Cross-Eyed View.

Multi-Media Design (Video Editing)

This course will cover video production and editing as well as animation. The curriculum will be completely pro­ject driven. Students will be expected to collect video footage outside of class and use class time for editing. Stu­dents will be required to attend various school and community events on evenings and weekends in order to collect video footage. Projects will be viewed during chapel and other school events. Class size is limited to 10 students.
