Dress Code Print E-mail

The purpose of the dress code is to establish guidelines within which students may have freedom to express individual tastes. Careful consideration has been given to the formulation of the policies by board members, administrators, and pastors. Shiloh Christian School students are expected to live and conduct themselves in a manner that will be pleasing to God and glorifying to the name of Jesus Christ (II Thessalonians 1:11-12)

An additional benefit of the dress code is the atmosphere created by well-dressed young people in a classroom setting. We have found that it is generally true that children and young people in play clothes will tend to play; children dressed in lean, neat clothes will most likely behave in a way which corresponds with their attire. Our desire is to eliminate casualness in the classroom and replace it with a business-like atmosphere reflected in the dress of the student.

The cooperation of students, parents, and teachers is necessary in maintaining the standards of the dress code. It is very important that the code is accepted fully and is enforced consistently. (It is especially important to be mindful of this when school clothes are purchased.) Enforcing the dress code is not the sole responsibility of the school - parents are expected to cooperate with the school in monitoring their child’s daily attire. If, in the opinion of the administration, the attire is immodest or inappropriate, corrective action will be taken. In most cases clothing that is inappropriate will result in the students being sent home with an unexcused absence. Extreme fads will not be allowed. (We will not specifically mention these fads because they change from year to year; however, it must be understood that hair, clothes or jewelry styles which are clearly identified with a certain segment of the culture is not the look that Shiloh wants.)
