AcademicsShiloh provides a solid academic foundation that will propel your student to future success in junior high, high school, college, and beyond with a strong emphasis in reading, writing, and math. Shiloh’s elementary students consistently score higher than national and state averages on SAT10 testing done on elementary students. Reading - Elementary students study phonetic rules enabling them to become competent readers. Other reading skills such as listening, comprehension, vocabulary, and speed reading are taught in elementary grades. Mathematics - Elementary math emphasizes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division through oral and written drills as appropriate for the child’s mental development. Classroom activities provide practical application and establish the foundation for high school math. Writing - Beginning in K4, students learn the importance of the written word. Kindergarteners produce a journal. First and second graders learn to write sentences and paragraphs. Third through fifth graders write summaries, a genre of paragraphs, and essays. History - Students in grades K4–fourth grade study about America, our land, people, flag, freedom, states, and history. Grade five focuses on world history and the rise of Christianity. Every grade studies Arkansas history. Patriotism and democracy are two words often found in our social studies program. Science - Science studies include demonstrations, experiments, projects, and special guest speakers that give students an understanding of scientific principles. God - Bible is a subject where students trace biblical themes and discuss its implications for everyday life. The Word of God under girds our entire curriculum. |
