A Note from Dr. Jones

December 7th, 2015

Dear Families,

As the first semester of this school year comes to a close I want to both thank you for partnering with our school in your child's education and update on a few matters related to the next semester.

Transition in the Dean of Students Office

Last August, my friend and the man that has held the title of dean of students and head golf coach for the last five years, Jordan Cox announced his resignation effective December 18.  Mr. Cox has accepted the head men's golf coach position at Mary Hardin Baylor. He will assume the role on January 4, 2016. We will engage an interim structure for the spring of 2016 as we continue our search for Mr. Cox's replacement.

The interim structure will be outlined as follows:

Attendance and Discipline

  • All attendance and discipline matters for 6th - 8th grades will be administrated by Mr. Moe Henry.
  • All attendance and discipline matters for 9th - 12th grades will be administrated by Mr. Chris Berus.
  • Mrs. Jennifer Campbell will continue to assist in these areas.

These leaders have spent the last several weeks preparing for these responsibilities, and as of December 1, began to actively lead in these areas.

Government

Throughout his tenure at Shiloh, Mr. Cox taught 12th grade Government.  We have secured Mrs. Rachel Henry to teach this course during the spring semester.  Mrs. Henry is a graduate of Shiloh and the University of Arkansas. She expects to complete a Master's in Education degree during the summer of 2016.

Golf

Our Leadership team is actively seeking the next head Shiloh golf coach. Our hopes are to have the new coach in place by the end of winter quarter, normally an inactive period for our golf team, and ready to go for the spring quarter that transitions to pre season golf around the end of May.

Color's Day (Basketball Homecoming)  January  15, 2016

When considering student life, the events surrounding Color's Day (Basketball Homecoming) make up one of the fun weeks of the year for our students.  The senior members of the court will present their spiritual testimonies during chapel on January 7, 2016.  Our student council will sponsor a series of dress up days during the week of January 11 -15. The court will be presented as a part of the pep rally on January 15th. Also, after the basketball games on the 15th, the school assists in coordinating a "Flannel and Boots" social event for grades 10 -12.  This event will be on campus.   This is one of three high school social events administrated by our school.  In the fall, a semi formal event takes place on homecoming weekend; a western style event happens in conjunction with Color?s day; and during April a banquet and after events is sponsored by the junior class in honor of the seniors.

Please know I consider serving your family and the students of Shiloh a great honor.

Have a Blessed Christmas,

Greg Jones, Dean of Secondary Education
