NorthWest Arkansas Community College Honors Rising Scholars from Area High Schools

Total of 177 Students Recognized for Completing at Least 12 Hours of College Credit

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (May 4, 2016) NorthWest Arkansas Community College recently recognized 177 high school students as Rising Scholars for having excelled in college classes at NWACC.

High school students can take NWACC classes on the NWACC campus, through the Early College Experience program, or through the Northwest Technical Institute Secondary Career Center. To receive the award, graduating high school seniors must be enrolled in or have completed at least 12 college credit hours while maintaining a 3.00 or higher NWACC grade point average.

NWACC also recognizes area high schools for their commitment to offering students concurrent enrollment opportunities. To be recognized as an Early College Experience School, 10 percent or more of the students participating in the NWACC Early College Experience program must be recognized as NWACC Rising Scholars. High schools recognized in May 2016 were Ambassadors for Christ Academy, Farmington High School, Gentry High School, Gravette High School, Greenland High School, Heritage High School, New Tech High School, Pea Ridge Manufacturing and Business Academy, Pea Ridge Schools, Rogers High School, Shiloh Christian High School, Siloam Springs High School and Springdale High School.

NWACC has been offering concurrent enrollment opportunities to area high school students since 1995. In the academic year 2014-15, students saved $804,820 in tuition and fees by participating in the Early College Experience program offered by NWACC. Fall 2015 enrollment in the program was 1,094 high school students.
