Foley’s Facts - September 3 print email

What an incredible turn out for Dads&Donuts!  Statistic: According to National Center for Educational Statistics, children whose fathers participate in classroom activities and school events receive higher grades, enjoy school more, and are more likely to participate in extracurricular activities than children whose fathers don't participate.

Thanks for signing up for WatchDog Dad!  If you didn’t get to sign up, call the office and we can help you find a date that works with your schedule.  WatchDog Dads sign in at the elementary office.   We will give you a schedule and vest to wear for the day.  Be sure to come with your child so we can take your picture and display it outside the office.

September 6                  No School (Labor Day)

September 10 Cookie Dough Orders Due

September 15                School Pictures

September 24                Grandparents’ Day  in Worship Center beginning at 9:00(Early Dismissal after program) Celebration Books will be presented before the program.

Chapel—Clay, our sock puppet, is looking sharp this week.  He now has a chapel shirt even though he wasn’t too pleased about having no arms.  God is our Potter and we may not be totally pleased with the way he made us or with our talents and abilities He has given us.  He IS God though and deserves our praise.

AR @ Shiloh Elementary is an opportunity to work toward a gold, silver, or bronze medal in May for 1st through 5th graders.  We have completed STAR tests for 2nd through 5th and they are ready to go.  We will test 1st grade after the mid-quarter.  (First grade parents, we will meet in the library on September 29th @8:15 for a preview of the program and how to access information at home.)  For guidelines and rules, please look for a flyer in next Friday’s folder.

Remember to save Boxtops and send them to school with your student.  Each month, we have a contest and the winning class gets to keep the trophy in their class.

Don’t Forget! No School on Tuesday for Teacher In-Service.

Last night, families had a great opportunity to connect with the Shiloh faculty and community.  We saw smiling faces, familiar faces, new faces, and yes, sticky faces.  Thanks for taking the time to come out for ice cream! You can see a few pictures from last night here.

Homeroom Mom Meeting in the Atrium at 8:15 on September 10th--I have emailed at least one mom from each class.  If you volunteered, but I didn’t contact you, please come anyway.  We have lots of opportunities to serve.  I’ll have sign-up sheets for coordinating different elementary events throughout the year.

Dads&Donuts is our next family event.  Dads, we encourage you to bring your children to school on September 3rd between 7:00-8:00 @ Fellowship Gym.  We will have donuts, coffee, milk, and juice.  After breakfast, you can drop your children off at early care (Hope Hall).  We will have a sign-up sheet for Watch Dog Dads as well as volunteer bus drivers.

Cookie Dough Funraiser—Cookie dough orders are due on September 9th.  Each child is encouraged to sell 10 boxes.  All proceeds will go toward fieldtrips and improving our playgrounds.  We are looking forward to a great sale this year.

Chapel—Most chapels are in the Kidz Theatre on Thursdays @ 8:30.  You are always welcome.  Simply, sign in at the elementary office and walk over using the Hope Hallway.  Our theme this year is “He is the Potter; I am the clay”.  Your children may have come home yesterday, telling you about a puppet named Clay.  Clay will help the younger students understand the concept that God is our Maker and Creator.  For the older children, Power Points are used to help them visualize the main ideas.   We will be studying some of the major and minor prophets this year.  I can’t wait to see what God will teach us through His Word.

August 30th – Face tattoos for $1 in the morning at early drop-off.

Foley's Facts-August 20 print email

The summer of 2010 was extremely busy and all the hours have been worth it just to see the children's faces as they entered school on Monday. Of course the children are all talking about the sports court and the flat screen TVs. As I walk from class to class I see teachers implementing what we learned and talked about over the summer. We've added Shurley English texts in 3rd through 5th grades, with increased usage of Shurley in grades one and two. As parents, I hope you will see "no-excuse" spelling lists as well as "high frequency" words. In math, we are striving to use more manipulatives in instruction. Foundations and Frameworks will continue to be our reading strategy for reading.

Finally, we are blessed you have chosen Christian Education. It will be my joy to share with your children what I have learned this summer about the Potter.

We’re Busy!  And looking forward to an exciting 2010!

The summer brings tremendous opportunities!  Many teachers are changing grade level assignments in order to help with the growth in our school.  Classes will be moved.  We are looking at changes on the playground.  There will be new tables in the lunchroom.  Our teachers are giving one week of their summer to update their teaching techniques.  Many teachers are spending hours looking for and reading novels to supplement our growing selections in Foundations and Frameworks. Everything we do during the summer points to the beginning of an exciting new year.   Continue to pray for us and we will pray for you.

Many of you received letters or phone calls reminding you to bring documents to the office for your child’s permanent files.  Please help us.  If you need to order the birth certificate, call us and let us know.
