Dr. McDaniel's Weekly Newsletter - February 26, 2023
Shiloh Family,
I can’t believe that we will already be in March this week! Please prioritize re-enrollment this week! Re-enrollment will close on Wednesday, March 1st! The Lord has blessed us with almost three hundred new applications for next year. These are truly historic times for our school.
As many of you know there is quite an uproar happening in the education world in Arkansas right now. I HIGHLY encourage you to read SB294. It is one of our duties as professionals to read legislation that directly applies to our occupation or schools that our students attend.
Always be careful to base your opinions on what you hear or are told. SB294 is 144 pages long, however, the part that applies to us in private schools primarily begins on page 82. Over the past few years, you have been a part of historic times across our nation, state, and school. If this bill passes, history will be made again here in Arkansas and in our school.
Don’t get confused by media or other public school officials on what the bill entails or doesn’t entail. Read it for yourself to be accurately informed. In broad strokes, the bill regarding the “Arkansas Educational Freedom Account Program” (vouchers) will step out over three years (page 89 line 14 begins discussions of eligibility for this fall). There will be specific restrictions year in year one, fewer restrictions in year two, and in year three any student that would be eligible no matter income level. I discuss this concept in my newsletter, please read it. If this bill is passed you will be a part of education during a time that I believe will be the highest level of educational reform in Arkansas since the civil rights movement.
These are such exciting times and I am thankful to be around during times such as these. Remember, the bill still has to get through the house. So, be sure to contact your representatives to show your support! Below is the list of Representatives that are supporting the bill and they need to hear from you and your support of the bill. They are getting a ton of pushback from public school officials and they need to hear from people who are supporting the bill to help give them the courage needed to see the bill through. Please take time to email or call them. I emailed all 55 of them over the weekend and called several of them last week. The bill will more than likely hit the House floor on Thursday. Be prayerful this week!
