First Day Encouragement with Brandon Moore

August 12th, 2025

It's official--we're back in full swing!

Don't stress, I doubt anyone is ready for the mad dash of getting everyone out of the house on time. You'll do your best, and then you'll navigate a chaotic parking lot and carline. There's nothing you can do to avoid it, just roll with it!

In all seriousness, I wanted to encourage you with a few things before we get rolling on another school year.

1. God has placed you here for a purpose.

"From one man he has made every nationality to live over the whole earth and has determined their appointed times and the boundaries of where they live."
-Acts 17:26

Whether you're new to Shiloh or you've been here for decades, God has placed you here this year on purpose. He has something for you. Be here with your whole heart, and ask God to do something significant in your life this year.

2. Watch out for holy moments.

You never know when God might show up.

Last year we implemented a no cell phone rule. Parents, if you can, I want to encourage you to extend the "No cell phone" policy into your car ride home. What if you got an extra 10-20 minutes with your kids, no cell phone in hand, getting to discuss the day with them?

I often think about Moses and the burning bush story. He's shepherding his sheep when he looks over to see a plant on fire, but the fire isn't consuming the plant. As he walks closer he encounters God and experiences a holy moment. What if Moses was face down in his phone doomscrolling? He would have never seen the fire and never encountered God.

Leave some space for holy moments in the car this year.

3. Consecrate your kids tomorrow morning.

The Bible speaks of people and places being "consecrated" for His holy work. The Spirit of God rests in a place and sets that place apart for a special work of God. What if you prayed over and consecrated your kids in the morning? Ask God to consecrate them and do a mighty work in and around them this year.

God can do more than we even ask or imagine. Let's ask Him!
