Spiritual Emphasis Week
We must position ourselves for Him to speak to us.
When I go grocery shopping alone, I am 100% focused on not talking to anyone else. I have my headphones in, I don’t make eye contact with people, and I use self-checkout whenever possible. I am prepared 0% for someone to talk to me. If they tried, I wouldn’t even be able to hear them. I don’t know if I need to change that or not, but I do know that far too often, I’m like that with God, too. I am 100% focused on myself and 0% prepared for Him to speak to me. I bet that you find yourself in the same boat.
Spiritual Emphasis Week is an ideal opportunity to reverse our tendencies and choose to be prepared for God to speak to us.
We must position ourselves for what He might say.
If you’re like me, you know what you want God to say to you. You want Him to speak to that specific situation or change that particular circumstance in your life. But what if He wants to speak to something else? What if He knows the bigger issue that you don’t know about? We must prepare ourselves by letting God set the agenda in our time with Him, not the other way around.
We must position ourselves to respond to what He says.
Do you remember the famous hymn? “I have decided… to follow Jesus. I have decided…to follow Jesus.” You know what it doesn’t say? “I might…follow Jesus.” “I’ll hopefully…follow Jesus.” No, it says, “I have decided…to follow Jesus.” You and I have no chance at being obedient unless we choose to do so. We won’t accidentally be obedient to God’s call on our lives. Choose today to be obedient Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and every day for the rest of your life.
Spiritual Emphasis Week isn’t just something we do as a “Private Christian School.”
It’s a moment to lean into what God may do in our lives.
It’s about positioning ourselves appropriately so that if God wants to say something that's difficult to hear, He can.
It’s about opening ourselves up to the possibility that God has something far better in store for our lives than we can imagine for ourselves.
Don’t miss out on what God has for you this week. Lean in and expect the impossible.
